Moming

I will not be sick

October 7, 2018

Yep - it is that time of year.  Cold and flu season.  You have heard it a million times.  Moms get sick and we get no relief.  It is like any other day but we just feel crappier than normal.  Our kids need us and we can't tell them "sorry I can't take care of you today - you are on your own.".  Dads are not exactly helpful either.  It is so common that it is actually cliche.  So we push on through the kleenex and cough drops.  The cooking and laundry gets done.  The kids are carted around from school to sports.  Homework and school projects are finished.  Grocery shopping, PTA, volunteering etc.  The world keeps spinning for a mom albeit she may be under the influence of some serious Nyquil.

Your kid gets sick.  You know it is coming for the rest of the family and eventually you.  You steralize.  You wash your hands and use antibacterial gel so much that your skin is peeling.  Lysol and Clorox.  Disinfecting.  Launder everything.  It is still going to get you.  Oh yes, it will get you.

So after the family is healed and back to normal, it comes for you.  You cannot hide.  It is here.  You feel the initial tinglings of that sore throat or the faint pounding of the migrane.  This is me RIGHT NOW.

What do I do.  I need to pull out the big guns.  I WILL NOT BE SICK.  I have a family to take care of and work to do.  I even have to get on a plane and fly overseas in 48 hours.  I am gonna hit this illness where it hurts.

PRAYER.  LOTS OF PRAYER.  I am not being funny here.  Seriously, I have prayed.

Despite my efforts I know the cold/flu has its own agenda.  I know that there is nothing I can do to completely banish it.  But maybe I can take away some of its power.  Maybe I am delusional.  But damn it I am not going down without a fight.

Kids just got their flu shots this week.  Me … nope.  Damn it!

Got any other ideas?  Got any other remedies you have used with great success?  Lay em on me mamas.  Circle the wagons.  Alert the troops.  Emergency phone tree.

October 19, 2018 at 9:11 pm Yeeeeessssss! All of this. My greatest success story was when one went down with the flu, it stopped there and no one else got it. My trick? QUARANTINE. Move the tv to his room, deliver meals, and all kinds of Clorox wipes and Lysol spray sort out on counters and toilets and sinks begging to be used. You can do it girl.
